Sectoral Pattern of E-business Adoption in Developing Countries

چکیده
Drawing on firm level surveys, we examine industry-specific factors that have influenced the adoption of e-business technologies in Uganda, Nigeria, and India. A sectoral typology of ebusiness adoption based on three broad sets of observations emerged. First, the study suggests that sector-specific factors influenced the degree of adoption of e-business technologies. For instance, the intensity of adoption of e-business technologies in the skill-and-knowledgeintensive electrical and electronic goods sector was found to be higher than in labour-intensive sectors such as garments, auto-component manufacturing, and food and beverages. Secondly, the intensity of adoption of e-business tools was not affected by organisational factors such as profitability, size of operation, age of firm, and per capital investment at the industry level. Third, there are significant variations in the conduct and performance of firms that use lower levels of e-business tools from those categorised as the most advanced users.
